The Symbol of the Labyrinth
The labyrinth is a symbol, over four thousand years old, of our journey to the centre of our being. Do not confuse it with a maze, which has many deceptive turns leading to dead ends, just like the course of our lives, if we do not become self-aware.
Travelling inwards over the circular spirals of the labyrinth brings enlightenment and healing through accessing our dreams, our hopes and our needs. Treading its route leads to the core of our lives, where we are “whole and intact, even if we are ill or suffering”. (Helen Raphael Sands) Just like the sequence of hypnosis, it follows the stages of being “on the threshold”, “journeying in”, which parallels the deepening of our hypnotic trance, “the resting place”, which represents encountering the truths at the heart our lives, and finally the “journeying out.” Now we are ready to resume our life’s path, refreshed and nourished for the journey.
